President
Dong-Ryeol SHIN stressed the importance of Software education in his interview
with Chosun Ilbo.
President SHIN,
who has majored in IT relevant studies became the president of SKKU in January
2019. Since his inauguration, he has been emphasizing the need for the
convergence of information technology with humanities courses. President SHIN
claimed, “We can apply software skills to the study of Confucianism. We have
166 books about JUNG Dojeon (Confucian Scholar) at our school. We can find a
new meaning by making use of the big data technology. Also, we can insert a
hyperlink in the research papers when it is published in an e-book format. I
believe students in Humanities Department can strengthen their global
competiveness by incorporating Data Science and Software knowledge.”
The president also
explained his plan to introduce MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) in the new
semester. The new system will have students watch an online lecture by a
professor at Stanford University and have a discussion session with their own
professors during the lecture period.
SKKU is aiming to
establish more convergence majors in the future. SKKU is currently providing
convergence majors such as “Data Science”, “Informatics”, and “Culture and
Technology”.
